Labour Market Information

NOC: 3123
Occupation: Naturopaths, Orthoptists, Osteopaths, and Podiatrists
Category: Health Occupations

Work Propects: Fair

Although the employment base is limited, so is the supply of available workers. Self employment is common for many of these occupations, such as podiatrist. As the population continues to age, demand will increase for a variety of heath related services, creating opportunities for some of these occupations. There has been a greater recognition by the public and other health professionals of parallel preventive and corrective care methods.
The supply of these professionals in the province would generally be low as training is very specific and found in few places in the country. These factors appear to favour the opportunities for those in this occupational group. However, this is not a large occupational group, and the number of opportunities overall will likely remain small in total, and better for some occupations than others. The amount of insurance plan coverage afforded in future to the treatments given by these professionals may also play a role in their popularity, and therefore affect employment prospects.
