These occupations include healthcare professionals who diagnose and treat diseases and injuries. Podiatrists and chiropodists diagnose diseases, deformities, and injuries of the foot. Chiropodists are mainly concerned with easing pain in the feet using braces, casts, shields, splints, and physical therapy. Podiatrists are involved in some of the same activities and, in addition, are able to take x-rays, prescribe drugs, administer local anesthetics, and perform foot surgery.

Osteopaths diagnose disorders and injuries of the musculo-skeletal, circulatory and nervous systems. Like medical doctors, they are able to use all known methods of diagnosis and therapy, including drugs and surgery.

Naturopaths employ natural methods of healing. They examine, diagnose, and treat patients, emphasizing support and stimulation of the body's natural healing mechanisms. Naturopathy uses natural substances and non-invasive methods. Orthoptists assist ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and treatment of vision disorders, eye movements, and eye alignment in children and adults.

To work in these fields, you should be interested in the health and well-being of others. An interest in science is also important. You must be patient, tolerant, and sensitive to the needs of others. Good coordination and manual dexterity are necessary. Physical stamina may be needed as well. You should like children if you are considering a career as an Orthoptist.
